Before your first massage, you will need to fill out some paperwork to provide contact information and information about your past and present medical conditions. Additionally, you will need to sign a consent form. You may want to arrive a few minutes early to fill these out, or if you would like to feel these out ahead of time, I can email them to you. This information allows me to communicate with you when necessary and insure that you receive a safe and appropriate massage.
I want to be able to give you the full length of time scheduled, so please arrive on time. This will help you to begin your session as relaxed as possible. Before each massage, I will also inquire about your health generally and ask you if you have any particular issues that you would like addressed. Please inform me of any health changes that might have bearing on the safety of massage (illnesses, new medications, recent pregnancy, etc.) We can also discuss which bodywork approaches have been most effective for you.
For some massage modalities (like Swedish and Deep Tissue massage) direct skin contact is preferred. You will be given privacy to disrobe to your comfort level, and you will be appropriately draped with a sheet during the session. Once you are on the table and under the sheet, you will signal for me to enter the room and begin the session. If you choose to remain clothed, I will limit my techniques to those that are possible without direct skin contact.
At any time during the session, you are encouraged to give me feedback. I want you to be as comfortable as possible, so do not hesitate to make requests. I can adjust the pressure and rhythm of the massage, and focus on the areas where you most need attention. At the end of the session, I will exit the room and allow you to re-dress and re-enter the waiting area when you are done. At this time you can pay and will have the opportunity to schedule another appointment.
